Spanish Hotel Chains: List of the Biggest Groups (2026)

Meliá, Barceló, Eurostars, NH, RIU, Iberostar and Paradores: which groups are Spanish, rooms in Spain where published, and official sites. The largest Spanish hotel groups by rooms in Spain are Meliá Hotels International (33,903 rooms in 139 hotels), Barceló Hotel Group (21,399 rooms) and Eurostars Hotel Company, part of Grupo Hotusa (18,058 rooms). That order is the Hosteltur 2025 ranking of Spanish chains, with figures collected up to mid-2025. A March 2026 Horwath HTL count of every operator in Spain, including foreign groups, still puts those three first, then Marriott, Accor and Hyatt. NH is not in Hosteltur’s Spanish ranking.

Spanish hotel groups

What this is for
A reference list of Spanish hotel groups, not a “where to stay” guide. Use the table for who owns the chain, how it ranks by rooms, and the official site. Then compare the direct rate with a booking site.
Next 3 steps
  1. Read the Spanish-groups table before the international one. They answer different questions.
  2. Open the official site for the style you want: city, beach resort, or a Parador.
  3. Compare cancellation and the final price with booking platforms before you pay.

Planning notes for trips in Spain. Always confirm booking and entry rules with the provider or official source before you travel.

Biggest Spanish hotel groups by rooms in Spain

This list is Spanish-owned groups only. International brands that operate in Spain are in the next section. Room and hotel counts are copied from the sources named in each table. If a source did not publish a figure, the cell says so. Checked 4 October 2026.

International groups operating in Spain

These are not Spanish hotel chains. Horwath HTL’s Spain Hotel & Chains Report 2026 (data as of March 2026) counts every branded operator. Its top three are still Meliá (30,706 rooms, 122 hotels), Barceló (18,705 rooms, 83 hotels) and Eurostars–Hotusa (18,479 rooms, 176 hotels). Those numbers are not the same as Hosteltur’s and should not be added to them. Horwath then lists:

4Marriott International15,093104marriott.com
5Accor14,144107accor.com
6Hyatt12,67346hyatt.com

In the same Horwath count, RIU is 10th among all operators in Spain, with 9,006 rooms in 22 hotels (about 410 rooms per hotel). Domestic chains had 330,263 rooms (78% of chain rooms) and international chains 94,544 rooms (22%). Hilton is a well-known international brand in Spain, but this page does not quote a Hilton room count because neither source published one.

NH is the awkward case. Hosteltur’s 2025 worldwide ranking of Spanish chains dropped Minor Hotels Europe & Americas, the company formerly listed as NH, after it stopped trading on Spanish stock exchanges. The NH name is still the hotel brand. No Spain room count for NH is included here, because it was not in the Spanish top 10 that Hosteltur published. NH hotels in Spain.

Spanish hotel chains: quick answers

What is the biggest hotel chain in Spain?

By rooms in Spain, among Spanish groups, Meliá Hotels International is first: 33,903 rooms and 139 hotels, then Barceló (21,399 rooms) and Eurostars, part of Grupo Hotusa (18,058). Source: Hosteltur 2025, data to mid-2025. Horwath’s March 2026 count of all operators also ranks Meliá first (30,706 rooms, 122 hotels), then Barceló and Eurostars, then Marriott and Accor. Do not merge the two counts.

Which hotel chains are Spanish?

Hosteltur’s Spain top 10 is Meliá, Barceló, Eurostars, Best Hotels, RIU, H10, Hoteles Globales, Iberostar, Grupotel and Ona. Worldwide, Catalonia, Palladium and Grupo Piñero also sit in the Spanish top 10. Paradores is the state-owned network and is not in that room ranking.

Are NH, Marriott and Hilton Spanish?

No. Marriott, Accor and Hyatt are international groups with published Spain room counts in the Horwath report. Hosteltur removed Minor Hotels Europe & Americas (the NH company) from its Spanish ranking after it delisted in Spain. Hilton operates in Spain, but neither source published a Hilton room count, so none is shown here.

What are Paradores?

Paradores is Spain’s state-owned hotel network, often in historic buildings or nature settings. It is not in the Hosteltur room ranking used above, so this page does not give a hotel or room count for it. Book on paradores.es.

Is it cheaper to book directly with the hotel chain?

Not always. Compare the direct rate, cancellation rules and loyalty benefits with booking platforms before you pay.
